Controlling EMI (electromagnetic interference) in a device is necessary when designing electronic equipment to protect components, and sometimes external equipment, from damage caused by high frequency noise levels.

EMI Ferrite Core and Beads are passive electronic components that can block high-frequency signals on a power supply line. They're typically used to protect a power or ground line pair that's coming into a device, such as your laptop's power cord. The magnetic core around a conductor produces a back EMF in the presence of a high frequency signal, according to Faraday's Law. effectively attenuating the ferrite frequency response.

Ferrites are magnetic materials, and putting them in a ferrite clamp along the power supply/ground line gives signals going through the line a source of inductive impedance. Ferrite bead inductors are used to attenuate high-frequency signals in electronic components because their impedance is inductive. When a ferrite bead choke is installed on the power line to an electronic device, it eliminates any spurious high frequency noise that may be present on the power line or output from a DC power supply. Noise reduction can be achieved in a variety of ways, by using a ferrite clamp or a switched-mode power supply. This method of using ferrite beads as a ferrite filter suppresses and eliminates conducted EMI.
