How to top up a MetaMask wallet from Binance
In this guide, we'll break down the options for refilling MetaMask and in which networks to do it correctly.
What networks MetaMask wallet supports
Metamask was created for Ethereum network, ETH coin and tokens launched in this blockchain (ERC20), but it also supports other ethereum-like networks which are compatible with Ethereum Virtual Machine. Due to this compatibility, MetaMask supports many popular networks and tokens issued on their basis, such as: Binance Smart Chain, Polygon, Avalanche, Huobi ECO Chain, Harmony and others.
Metamask wallet address
If you already have a wallet and have any alternative networks added to it, notice that when you switch networks, the wallet address remains, that is, all networks in MetaMask have the same address.
This feature slightly reduces the chance of losing money because in the case of an erroneous transfer, if it is made in one of the supported networks, it is enough to add the network and token, that it was displayed in the purse.
How to add a network to Metamask
By default, the wallet will have only one "Ethereum Mainnet" network, in which you can use the native ETH network coin and all tokens issued in the ERC20 standard.
Commissions in different networks
Before funding your wallet with any tokens, you need to make sure that your wallet has native coins for transactions, for the Ethereum Mainnet network it is ETH, for the Binance Smart Chain network it is BNB, for the Polygon network it is MATIC, and for the Arbitrum network it is also ETH, but issued in the Arbitrum network.
If there are no native coins on the balance, nothing can be done with the tokens transferred to the wallet because any action in the wallet requires native coins of the network in which the transactions take place.
How to top up your wallet
As we wrote above - before transferring any tokens to MetaMask, make sure that your wallet has enough native coins to work in this network. The best way, in our opinion, remains the purchase on the Binance exchange because on the exchange it is convenient to buy coins using a bank card, after which they need to be transferred to the desired network on MetaMask.
Refilling MetaMask with ETH coins
Since the wallet was created for the Ethereum network, you do not need to add anything when transferring ETH, just copy the address from the wallet and paste it into the "address" field on the output page of the exchange.
After that, when you click on the drop-down list of networks, the window will display all the networks to which you can withdraw ETH from Binance. If you plan to use tokens in "Ethereum Mainnet" network, you need to choose ERC20, if on UniSwap exchange (in Arbitrum second level network), then "Arbitrum one", if on PancakeSwap exchange you choose BSC BEP20.
How to top up MetaMask with USDT tokens
Stablecoin USDT, issued by Tether, exists in the form of a token in different networks, to see all the networks, you need to click on the drop-down list of smart contracts. In front of some addresses will be the MetaMask logo, when you click on it, the token will be added to the wallet, the token must be added for each network.
From exchange Binance USDT can be withdrawn in Ethereum network standard ERC20 or BSC standard BEP20, in the second case, the wallet must be added to the network.
The cost of withdrawal and the time to the expected transaction depends on the selected network.
How to transfer BNB to MetaMask from Binance
To work in the network BSC, it must be added, and then replenish it with native coins network - BNB.
Copy the wallet address and paste it into the "address" field, then select the network - BSC.
Replenishment of MetaMask with BUSD tokens
To withdraw BUSD from the Binance exchange, you need to decide in which network to withdraw tokens, if necessary, add a network in MetaMask, then copy the wallet address and send tokens to it.
Two networks are available to withdraw BUSD from Binance: ETH ERC20 and BSC BEP20.
How to convert USDC to MetaMask
Everything is the same as with BUSD, but the Polygon network is still available for USDC withdrawal from Binance.
Before withdrawing to the Polygon network, make sure a network is added to the wallet and there is enough MATIC to pay commissions. If there is no MATIC on MetaMask yet, skip to the next paragraph.
Transferring MATIC from Binance to MetaMask
First, add a Polygon network to Metamask. Once added, buy a MATIC coin on the exchange and withdraw it using the Polygon network.
Since MATIC is a native Polygon coin, you do not need to add it to the wallet, it will be added when you add a network.
Translating TRX and Tron network tokens into MetaMask
Even though Tron is a copy of the Ethereum network, it has no EVM support. This means that it and its tokens are not supported by MetaMask wallet. It is important not to confuse native TRX coin and TRX token in BSC network, token issued in BSC network can be added and used in MetaMask.
How to top up MetaMask with SOL tokens
As with TRX, only SOL tokens in the BSC network can be added to MetaMask.
Two networks are available for SOL output on Binance: BSC - in the form of BEP20 token and Solana native network.
What to do if the tokens did not come to MetaMask, when transferring from Binance
Funds may not reach you for a variety of reasons. Below is the necessary algorithm for action:
- Go to the withdrawal page on the exchange, see the status of the request for withdrawal, in some cases it may be rejected by the exchange;
- if the withdrawal request is processed, follow the link to the block explorer in the withdrawal network and check there the blockchain transaction status and recipient address, for ETH, for BNB, for Polygon, etc;
- if the transaction is done in the blockchain and the recipient address is correct, click on it and see what tokens are at that address;
- if the tokens are displayed at the address, open MetaMask and check the selected network; if the network is correct, find the desired token at https://coinmarketcap.com/ and add it to the wallet via the smart contract drop-down list;
- if it is still not displayed - reload your browser and MetaMask;
- in rare cases, reinstalling the wallet completely helps.
Last point is theoretical, never got to it, usually errors occur when adding networks and tokens to the purse.
