Lesson Story

Last week, we learned that even as a baby, Jesus was recognised as the King God had promised to send. Jesus grew up to serve many people as their leader, teacher, healer, and Lord.

He performed many miracles. He suffered and died on the cross to pay for the sins of the world. Then, God raised Him from the dead.

After Jesus had died and resurrected, he appeared to the apostles from time to time. He preached about the kingdom of God to them. One day,he was eating with them and commanded them not to leave Jerusalem until the father sent them a promised gift, the Holy Spirit. He told them that John baptised with water but in just a few days they will be baptised with the Holy Spirit.

The apostles wondered when he would free Israel and restore the kingdom. Jesus replied that “it’s the father alone who has the authority to set those dates and times, and they are not for you to know. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. ”

After saying this, he was taken up to into the clouds and they watched till they could no longer see him.

As they strained to him, suddenly two white robed men stood among them. They asked them, “Why are you still staring at the heavens? Jesus has been taken into heaven but someday he will return from heaven in the same way you saw him go”.

And after, the apostles returned to Jerusalem from the Mount Olives, a distance of half a mile.

Prayer

Thank you Lord for giving us your son Jesus and your promised gift, the precious holy spirit. Help us to stay faithful till the second coming of Jesus.
