10 tips to repair damaged hair!

1 - Cut split ends

The first tip for treating damaged hair may not sound like the advice you want to hear. But by only cutting off the split ends, your damaged hair often looks a lot better and healthier. It is not necessarily a solution but may contribute to how you feel in front of others.

2 - Don't wash your hair too often

You've probably heard this tip before. But why does this help with damaged hair? Firstly, shampoos open the hair cuticles every time, so they can and will damage faster. You could fix this with a conditioner because it closes the cuticles.

But with the shampoo, you also remove natural sebum from your scalp. And sebum is needed to cover the scales and keep them healthy (of course you have to brush for this or regularly brush your hand casually through your hair!). Without sebum, the scales are considerably more vulnerable. And you can't fix that with a conditioner. So wash less often.

3 - After washing, use a conditioner or rinse with cold water

What you know anyway after the above tip is that a conditioner closes the cuticles and that your hair always feels smooth. What you may not know is that cold and lukewarm water have the same effect. Because the hair cuticles lie flat, they have less to endure and you keep them stronger for longer. This way you can also repair damaged hair.

The advantage of a conditioner over lukewarm or cold water is that it contains nourishing ingredients to treat damaged hair.

4 - Dab, do not rub!

Do you use a towel to dry your hair? Then it is tempting to rub your hair heavily because it dries faster (and you may like the 'massage' feeling).

But this will only damage your hair more.

The hair cuticles open up and break down faster due to the friction.

So pat your hair dry or wrap the towel around your head like a turban and let it dry.

5 - Sleep on a satin or silk pillowcase

Doesn't luxury sound true? Apart from the fact that you may sleep more pleasantly on this, the fabrics are also very smooth. This makes your hair slide more easily.

This is in contrast to, for example, cotton, where rough friction is more likely to occur. The hair scales are therefore less damaged with satin and silk pillowcases than with, for example, cotton pillowcases.

So immersing yourself in luxury is good in this case to take care of damaged hair!

6 - Sleep with your hair tied together

Another way to reduce friction while sleeping is to wear your hair together. Think for example of a bun or a ponytail.

If you use a rubber band for this, use a rubber band without a metal connector! The metal will only damage your hair more and increase the chance that it will become brittle and break.

7 - Avoid chemical treatments

Customers regularly come to us with: “I have damaged hair by bleaching”, “I have damaged hair by dyeing” and “I have damaged hair by perming”. And it is true, these treatments are not good for your hair.

The chemicals attack both your hair cuticles and the inside. Consider, for example, decolorizing pigments and rearranging keratin chains. All the more reason not to use chemical treatments if you already have damaged hair.

8 - Avoid backcombing your hair

This tip actually makes sense when you look at the previous tip, but we think it is important to name it extra. With backcombing brush or comb against your hair, forcing the scales open, and then get more volume.

You can imagine that if you have damaged hair and the scales are already fragile, this is not recommended and is best avoided.

9 - Avoid hot styling tools

Often damaged hair is caused by the hair straightener or other styling tools. Reason enough not to use them if you already have damaged hair.

Do you want to use them anyway? Then first apply a heat protectant in your hair. This provides some protection against the heat, but that doesn't mean you can set the tools to the maximum temperature.

Keep the temperature at hair straighteners, curling irons and hair rollers as low as possible, and make sure your hair is not dripping wet when you blow-dry. First, let this air-dry or in a towel. This will help repair damaged hair.

10 - Try to brush and comb as little as possible

The friction between hair and brush is one of the biggest causes of damaged hair. A no-brainer that wants to prevent brushing and combing, but this is not always easy. Therefore some tips if you really can not do without.

In any case, take the time to brush or comb gently, always use a detangling spray (spray that detangles your hair) or serum and use a wide-toothed wide-toothed comb. This also minimizes friction and prevents damaged hair.
