Application of activated carbon in industrial sewage and wastewater treatment
For most wastewater treatment plants, discharge is up to standard when the concentration of various pollutants in the wastewater is below the set sub-maximum limit. The three-stage filter is a "polishing" process equipment to ensure that treated wastewater can be reused to residential areas.
In the process of industrial wastewater treatment, if the wastewater contains certain specific, non-biodegradable organic compounds, or when the concentration of organic matter in the wastewater is too low to use biological treatment technology, the activated carbon treatment process can be considered. The variety selection of activated carbon is very important for industrial wastewater treatment. According to the general experience, when the adsorption is small molecular organic matter, the selection of bituminous coal based activated carbon can achieve the best use effect; when the adsorption of macromolecular organic matter is needed, the selection of lignite based activated carbon is the most suitable.
Basic reason is: because the pore size distribution of each kind of activated carbon is different, only then causes the activated carbon performance aspect difference, the bituminous coal-based activated carbon is less than the lignite-based activated carbon mesopore (which refers to the pore diameter in the range of 2 to 50 nm) rate, therefore, when the need to remove is the larger molecule, should choose the carbons variety with the larger inner pore size, can accommodate the adsorbate molecule. in addition, for the established wastewater fluid, whether the selected activated carbon can achieve the best results, there are some other influencing factors, for example, the surface functional groups of activated carbon are different, which will cause it to have a chemical preferential adsorption trend for some adsorbate molecules in the wastewater.
However, because there must be complex interaction in the process of adsorption of pollutant components, it is usually easier and more accurate to obtain the adsorption behavior law of activated carbon adsorption technology system by using actual wastewater for laboratory test or pilot plant test, which is much more practical than doing prediction analysis on paper. Since there are many kinds of compounds in wastewater, even if there are not thousands, there are at least hundreds of them, we strongly recommend the adsorption column test before designing the commercial treatment plant system
