Activated carbon is a type of carbon, which is activated for super absorbency of odor, particulates and other pollutants. The activated carbon is manufactured from shells, coals, wood and other materials, which are gone through high temperature carbonization, activation and refined processes.

Granular activated carbon is manufactured from wood chips and shells including coconut shells, walnut shells and almond shells. The coconut shell activated carbon is the most popular type.

Granular activated carbons are mostly made from Coconut Shells on petroleum coke, bituminous coal or lignite. Granular activated carbon is used in continuous process in areas like water treatment (drinking & effluent water), removal of mercury from effluents or alkali cells, solvent recovery, gold recovery, removal of odor, gas masks, as catalyst carrier, for decolorination of water, purification & separation of gases, kitchen hoods, dry cleaning etc.

4. Coal activated carbon is made from bituminous coal, peat and anthracite. The shapes of coal activated carbon are granular and columnar. Coal activated carbon has high mechanical strength and low-cost. It is widely used for poisonous gas purification.
