The Translation Characteristics of Lexical Units in English and Uzbek Languages

In accordance with the scientific seminar schedule approved for our department in 2024, on March 16, 2024, a scientific seminar titled "The Translation Characteristics of Lexical Units in English and Uzbek Languages" was organized by Associate Professor Dildor Bakhtiyarovna Otajonova, Ph.D. The seminar discussed the theoretical aspects of lexical problems in translation and participants received necessary information for their research. The practical part, which involved translating a poem called "My Vigil" by Ruth Smeltzer into Uzbek, was particularly interesting. Afterwards, D.B. Otajonova shared her own translation, analyzing the translation characteristics of each line.

Below, we share the poem and its translation:
My Vigil by Ruth Smeltzer
The silver stars shine in the sky, The night wind murmurs low I keeping vigil, often sigh, For oh, I miss you so. Perhaps when all the stars are gone, The bitter ache will go. Perhaps at the breaking dawn, I’ll not miss so
Translated by D.B.Otajonova
Kumushdek tovlanar yulduz osmonda, Esadi sochlarim silab shabboda Bedorlikda mudom о‘ylayman seni, Intizor-la kutib, kuylayman seni. Mayli tunlar о‘tib, tonglar ham otsin, Mayli achchiq dardlar yuragim tilsin. Balki sen kelarsan tong otgan chog‘da, Men seni kutishdan tо‘xtayman shunda
