What is the Rare Apepe Yacht Club NFT Collection?
The Rare Apepe Yacht Club is an NFT collection launched by Rare Labs in March, 2022, that amalgamates the themes and motifs of Rare Pepes, one of the earliest NFT trends which gained traction in 2016, and Bored Ape Yacht Club.
As of October, 2022, Rare Apepes are PFP NFTs with no additional utility. Like with Bored Ape Yacht Club, holders can also purchase a “serum” to create a mutant version of their NFT.
The original Rare Apepe mint in March, 2022, saw 1,999 NFTs go to market at a mint price of 0.05ETH (then around $100), followed by another free mint of 8,000 NFTs in July.
Who is behind Rare Apepe Yacht Club?
Rare Apepe Yacht Club was launched by NFT design agency and studio Rare Labs and its founder, Rare Designer. According to the Rare Apepe Yacht Club website, Rare Designer is a Venzuelan artist who was an early participant in the Rare Pepes meme.
The original Rare Pepes are a series of Pepe the Frog NFTs minted on Bitcoin between 2016 and 2018 by different creators across 36 series; they can be browsed on the Rare Pepe Directory and have fetched record prices at Sotheby’s auctions.
Bored Ape Yacht Club is currently the most famous NFT collection in the world. The studio behind the project, Yuga Labs, has since added several offshoot BAYC projects, a token, and a metaverse world where Bored Apes will likely feature prominently — creating an entire ecosystem.
What is the price of Rare Apepe Yacht Club NFTs?
As of Oct. 13, 2022, the floor price of a Rare Apepe NFT was 0.42ETH (around $550 at the time.)
From the floor price data, it is clear that Rare Apepes have managed to retain their value decently.
