  • The Doodles collection features 10,000 NFTs minted on Ethereum.
  • Holders of the token can vote on future projects and events.
  • A new collection, called Doodle 2, is expected to launch in the coming months.

Doodles is an NFT collection created by Canadian artist Scott Martin, along with Evan Keast and Jordan Castro. It launched on Oct. 17, 2021, with a collection of 10,000 NFTs and a starting price of 0.123 ETH.

The collection of non-fungible tokens consists of random combinations of 256 traits designed by Martin, a dynamic previously used by other collectibles, like CryptoPunks or CryptoKitties. Doodles are soft, simple, pastel-colored drawings of humans, animals, and other creatures.

About Doodles

The Doodles’ collection launched in Ethereum after a wide and innovative marketing campaign. The company behind the project decided to lock the community’s discord after reaching 1,000 members, which gave early supporters a sense of exclusiveness.

Out of the 10,000 Doodles, 504 were minted and reserved for the founders. The rest was minted and sold to the whitelisted users in the preliminary sales. Numerous Doodles have been repurchased in secondary markets, such as OpenSea or Nifty Gateway. One of the rarest Doodle was purchased by NFT collector Pranksy, for 296.69 ETH (over $1,1 million at the time).

This project is an open, community-driven ecosystem, that functions like a DAO. Holders of Doodles can vote on different topics, like approved derivatives or future features and events.

The Doodlebank, a community treasury, is a part of this ecosystem, and holders can decide what the funds are used for. The bank was funded with 420 ETH from the initial sales, and half of the creator earnings from secondary sales are directed towards it as well. The Doodlebank currently holds over $5 million USD.

The project’s team has managed to give holders a sense of exclusiveness, while expanding their reach and inviting newcomers to the ecosystem.

Who is behind Doodles

The Doodles team comprises Canadian artist Scott Martin, better known as Burnt Toast, who designs all illustrations and animations. He had previously worked for big companies like Google or WhatsApp.

Martin is responsible for the wholesome and soft looks of the Doodles ecosystem, from the initial NFT collection to all the other instances where the signature designs are used, in events, advertisements, and promotional posts.

Along with Martin, the project was co-founded by marketing specialist Evan Keast (known as Tulip), and developer Jordan Castro (known as Poopie). Both of them had previously worked at Dapper Labs, the company behind one of the first successful NFT projects: CryptoKitties.

Doodles Holders

Space Doodles

The Doodles team is known for its innovative approach, from the exclusive launch strategy to offshoot collections and projects. One of these is the Space Doodles collection, which expanded the experience for holders of Doodles.

Space Doodles use an improved version of a technology called Wrapped NFT, created by CryptoKitties developer Kabciane. This allows Doodle holders to create wrapped versions of their existing token, featured on a spaceship designed exclusively by Martin.

These tokens are tied to the original collectible. Since it doesn’t create a new NFT, it doesn’t dilute the existing market and doesn’t impact negatively the market price. In fact, this feature allows users to add new features to their already existing token, which might even increase their market performance.

Doodles 2

In the coming months, the project will launch Doodles 2. This new facet of the ecosystem also brings innovation to the NFT field, where collectors can create their own Doodles with new or existing traits.

The new Doodles can be customized in any way and as many times as the owner wishes to. The NFT will be loaded to the blockchain, and updated when changes are made.

Doodles 2 will include music and animation in the NFT. A tool called The Dooplicator will allow owners to import traits from the first batch to the new collection.
