EDWARDIAN MAHOGANY JOCKEY SCALES - EARLY 20TH CENTURY - the brown leather padded seat and scales on a rectangular base raised on square fluted legs ending in spade feet 63cm wide, 67cm high, 42cm

A wonderful Victorian-era jockey scale by W. & T. Avery of Birmingham • The scale is crafted of solid walnut and retains its original brass weights • Features including a tufted leather seat, turned and tapered legs make this scale a handsome find • These scales were used at horse racing venues to weigh jockeys before and after a race • Scale marked W & T Avery • Circa 1890 • 34 5/8 wide x 20 7/8 deep x 37 high

A set of Victorian oak, walnut and leather upholstered Jockey scales by Youngs of London - circa 1880, the seat with scrolled arms, the gilt brass scale with adjustable weight and a columnar stem branded in two places, the first with Youngs, Bear Street, London, W.C. and at the base Youngs Patent London with a carved foliate frieze and turned fluted legs. 74cm. high, 92cm. wide, 56cm. deep; 2ft. 5in., 3ft., 1ft. 10in.

A Set of Jockey Scales by Henry Pooley & Sons, H: 46 in W: 36 in D: 17 in, Primarily constructed in mahogany & brass, rising from four ring turned tapered legs, the upholstered seat & back having curlicue brass armrests; the scale, its’ brass dial calibrated to twenty four stone, & signed by the makers, Henry Pooley & Sons, & noting their presence in both Liverpool & London, housed in a mahogany circular case atop a tapering circular ring turned column. W & T AVERY LTD, BIRMINGHAM Antique jockey scales (1880 England), A good set of 'Avery Patent' jockey scales: oak with carved acorns and leaves to the top of the seat, brass fittings and red leather buttoned seat. Accurately weigh 0 -32 stones. Avery, manufacturers of weighing apparatus, established in Birmingham in 1730 and are still manufacturing today. In 1905 they supplied a pair of jockey scales to Newbury Racecourse one of which is now proudly shown in the Avery Historical Museum.
