Bocchi the Rock! is a story about dealing with social phobia, alienation and loneliness. Perhaps, if I'd watch this anime at 16 I'd be very sad but now... I am sad because I'd be sad at 16. Luckily, now I can make fun of myself but this story is honest. Who difficult it may be to look into other's eyes or even enter the unfamiliar place? Bocchi the Rock! shows those struggles.

This is what this anime is about. It's not about music, sadly. There are a lot of music and the music is good (very nice J-Rock) but I feel it lacks musical content. There are guitars and rehearsals, small live houses and some details showing that an author know thing or two about music world... but the anime never focuses on that.

But, on the bright side, there are plenty of clever jokes and takes on important topics of social anxiety and self-isolation. Look at the MAL score: it tells that there are thousands of people who really liked Bocchi the Rock! There are no over-the-top sweet tea parties nor deep psychological drama. This anime balances on the edge between drama and comedy and does it perfectly. But first and foremost this is a slice of life comedy.

My summary: I recommend this to anyone but please don't expect a serious work of art or a music anime masterpiece.
