Drug trade in Golden Triangle, Thailand

In Thailand during COVID-19 situation, 9 main drug traffickers were arrested and deterred with the seizure of large numbers. In total, 17.1 million tablets of methamphetamine, 230kg of ice, 150kg of ketamine, 6kg of heroin, and 400kg of cannabis.

Not only domestic drug traffickers were arrested and deterred, international drug traffickers were found as well such as; - The Golden triangle (Border of Thailand, Laos and Myanmar) is one of the largest drug trafficking areas in Southeast Asia which the United Nations and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) join forces to explore problems and contribute to sustainable development.

Among the problems plagued by COVID-19, another problem that never leaves is "Drug Problem" which is growing in other industrial in the world.

Secretary General of the Narcotics Control Committee (NACC) of Thailand revealed the Golden Triangle 1511 Joint Operations Thailand and its Member States arresting and seizing drug-containing substrates "Ethyl Acetate", Ethyl Acetate has more than 26.5 tons, which can produce up to 1.5 billion tablets of methamphetamine and 45 tons of ice pills. Can produce up to 100 kg of heroin.

Over the past decades, Thailand along with relevant agencies such as the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), have made great progress in combating opium trade in the Golden Triangle area. Patrols from the military base on Doi Chang Mub, which can be seen as far as Myanmar, regularly operate against drug trafficking. This progress is a reflection of global good practice. However, there is a growing trade in drugs of synthetic drugs instead of opium especially methamphetamine.

We recognized our local efforts for sustainability during the conference, which was impressive and in line with the sustainable development goals set. However, the current situation made us realize that to combat drug trafficking and to cope with the effects of drug use and crimes that are damaging to the lives of individuals and communities, It is imperative to link the inextricable development and enhancement of people's livelihoods. Still, the resurgence of the community and the commitment to uplift the welfare of all members has inspired us. Even now that faces many challenges especially during the pandemic that occurs.
