HUNTME TRUCKING News Today ( May 17 )

This week, due to DOT Inspection Week, capacity was tighter across the U.S. as many drivers chose to stay home.

Across multiple states, there were heavy inspections, and many drivers received violations or were placed out of service, which also affected several companies.

In this chart by SearchCarriers.com, you can see the data collected from FMCSA.

CEO of SONAR, Craig Fuller, stated that tender rejections are rapidly increasing across freight markets, especially east of the Rocky Mountains, showing that capacity is getting tighter and the market is heating up.

He also mentioned that ports are not contributing to the current freight surge. According to him, the market movement is being driven mainly by domestic freight activity rather than imports.

The SONAR Outbound Tender Rejection Index map in the chart highlights strong rejection activity across many eastern and central U.S. markets, which usually indicates reduced truck availability and stronger pricing power for carriers.

What tender rejections means: Tender rejections mean trucking companies are refusing load offers from brokers or shippers, usually because capacity is tight and carriers can find better-paying loads elsewhere.

Craig Fuller, also stated that truckload spot rates continue to surge across the U.S., reaching $3.61 per mile on the daily SONAR chart.

He also mentioned that rates are now only $0.06 per mile away from breaking an all-time record, saying that at this point it feels almost inevitable.

As we stated earlier about SearchCarriers.com, the platform has many features that allow users to check carrier inspections, safety history, network connections, and overall truck activity.

One trucking expert mentioned that he used SearchCarriers to review a carrier’s inspection history and network data, while also using GenLogs to track the carrier’s truck activity.

According to him, the carrier showed almost no movement over the past week, suggesting the company may be struggling operationally or slowing down significantly.
