What is an attic?

When building and choosing a house, the consumer sometimes faces the question of which is better: an attic or a whole floor? Indeed, the choice here is not always obvious. Recall that the attic is a living area in the attic, which is formed under the roof (size m2 and m3 in plan).

Only the ceiling height is taken into account, which is about two and a half meters at least. Moreover, the shape of the roof itself does not matter. So, the roof can be broken or sloped. In order to determine which option is better to choose, it is reasonable to consider the features of each of them with specific examples.

You can carry out this experiment yourself if you go to any construction site. So let's take two houses for example. They are completely identical to each other. Only one of them will have an attic, and the second includes a full floor. What is the difference between them? The difference between an attic and a floor lies primarily in the price and finishes.

There are a number of nuances during construction and subsequent maintenance. For example, for the construction of an attic, the main difficulty will be in finishing the inclined surface and insulating the living area. It is necessary to make the finishing so that no leaks occur in the future. Measures are being taken to eliminate noise penetration.

As a rule, mineral wool is used in the construction of an attic. The presence of a ventilation gap is also taken into account. All safety measures are followed in case maintenance is required later. In this case, free access to insulation and insulation is required.

If the attic is cold, then the insulation and insulation concerns only the horizontal surface. And in order to avoid heat loss or penetration of extraneous loud sounds, a layer is provided directly between the roof itself and the ceiling.

Such actions help to avoid the appearance of ice on the roof in winter. This is due to the fact that the roof does not heat up from the inside. In the summer, the room also does not heat up, so residents will not have to suffer from the sweltering heat.

But that's not all. Having a cold attic, it will be much easier for the owner to repair the roof or floors in the room. From the inside of the house, access to insulation and covering will be open, which will allow for unhindered repair work. All of the above indicates that the attic requires much more effort in construction and further maintenance.

However, the attic has its advantages - the height of the ceiling. The maximum height sometimes reaches 3.5 meters. These are impressive dimensions! You can't find this in an ordinary apartment;

Attractive design. The room seems to be transformed externally, which makes it possible to turn on imagination and make a skillful finish;

The ability to experiment. French balconies will embellish the attic, which will look spectacular;

No load on the foundation. The attic does not create additional stress;

Saving. During construction, you can significantly save on finishing.

All these advantages are essential when choosing an attic. It is worth adding to this a huge selection of projects during construction and erection. Even the most discerning consumer will love it. But there are significant disadvantages in the attic.

Among others, the complexity of the repair can be distinguished. Repair work is difficult, as is maintenance. The main difficulty is due to the fact that sloped ceilings do not always allow you to choose the furniture and materials for decoration that you would like. In addition, if you make mistakes when creating thermal insulation, then in the summer it will be very hot in the attic.
