#PREMIERE Ohm Collider 'Skelter'
Listen to 'Skelter' by Ohm Collider taken from 'Under Air' EP out on 30th June via Off-Switch Audio
For the next release of 2023, Off-Switch Audio welcomes Bristol-based artist Ohm Collider to the label with a four-track EP. Ohm Collider has a monthly residency on 1020 Radio and co-runs Area Code, a local grassroots club night and listening session; he’s also made several appearances on the multi-genre digital imprint Moon Rack. These four tracks all sit just below the 140bpm mark, exploring melodic and club focussed styles with a distinct signature sound. Fundamental Frequency sets the pace with rich layers of synth-driven melodies and heavy modulating basslines. Backdrops of atmospheric spacial effects and robotic vocal chops, among powerful sub-vibrations, build up a convincingly 4D sonic illusion bouncing out beyond the speaker cones. Ohm Collider keeps things moving in a psychedelic direction with Oongo. A trance-inducing lead synth hook grows above a backing of hard-hitting percussive dirt, followed by a wide atmospheric build into a sparse bass-fuelled beat. The track continually grows and evolves in unexpected ways - watch out for the bass switch ups! Silk briefly changes the vibes with emotive intro melodies on an airy backdrop of textural pads. This moves into a euphoric anthem of crisp percussion and weighty low-end, topped with energy fuelled vox-chops on the 2nd drop. Spacious brain tickling foley FX zoom around the stereo field throughout the track, not holding back on those intricately designed ear pleasers. Bringing things to an ecstatic finale, Skelter brings forth strong vibrations; high-NRG synth sequences, hard-hitting drum design and powerful low frequency weight. The rapidly modulating bass lead is well-suited for the track name on this one, and the drums bounce around this movement perfectly, with an aggressively satisfying punch and a thick crunchy tail. Under Air EP demonstrates the perfect combo of modular sound design, heavy beats and exciting narrative arrangements. The tracks are well-suited not only for euphoric moments in the club, but also for the after-party moments to follow; perfect for the soundsystem, the studio and the chilled out times with the headphones on at home.
