Yamaha Grand Filano 125cc Comes to India with Trendy Design

The rear view of the spotted scooter features the taillight assembly, indicator, exhaust bin with chrome heat shield and the Yamaha logo on the top of the taillight, which looks a lot like the Yamaha Grand Filano sold in Thailand or Yamaha Nozza Grande sold in Vietnam. It is very likely that the scooter in the spyshot can boast a 125cc engine and make its presence felt in the 125cc sub-category scooter market to see expansion in India.

Yamaha India's first 125cc scooter will compete with Honda Activa 125, Suzuki Access, Mahindra Gusto, Piaggio Vespa 125, again to launch TVS Jupiter 125 and Aprilia SR125. On the other hand, the details of the powertrain cannot be confirmed and the chances of the scooter carrying the 113cc mill are slim but cannot be ruled out.

The engine of this scooter in international markets is a 125cc air-cooled 4-stroke engine with fuel injection paired with a CVT that promises to be very fuel efficient and energetic. This engine produces 8.2 PS at 6,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 9.7 Nm at 5,000 rpm. Like its companions, the all-new scooter features Yamaha's revolutionary "Blue Core" technology which ensures better combustion and improved fuel efficiency. However, it could lose fuel injection and get the carburetor in India to make it affordable.

In Thailand and Vietnam, this future 125cc scooter is available in two variants: Standard (STD) and Deluxe (DLX). Notable exterior differences are the color of the two-tone seats with name badges on both sides and rear, body-colored ORVM and a matte silver rather than chrome finish on the Deluxe upholstery. However, the Indian model is likely to omit a front disc brake on the base standard trim.

The Grand Filano has LED headlights in the front, like the brand new Honda Dio. The Nozza Grande is currently sold for around 41.99 million Vietnamese dong, which is approx. 1,19,179 INR in Vietnam, while its price is 52,000 baht, or 98,821 INR in Thailand. The Indian variant, however, is expected to be about INR 55,000 cheaper with reduced cost savings to fit the scooter into the budget scooter category.
