Why is there a British flag on the AC Milan and Barcelona Logos?
Every Football Club must have its own identity. Apart from the jersey and flag. A logo is also a feature that is quite crucial and very important for a football club. Why ?
Because the club logo is an identity for the club which is articulated in various discourses. First, in the perspective of marketing management, the club logo is a brand or brand that is the selling point of the club to sponsors. Second, the club logo is a marking system that distinguishes the club that has the logo from other clubs.
A logo is also a reflection of the football club. If you look at the logos of the world's top football clubs, there must be certain parts that have their own meaning. Like the MU logo which has an image of a ship, or the Atletico Madrid logo which has an image of a bear.
The same thing happened in the logos of Barcelona and AC Milan. At first glance, there is nothing strange about the logos of the two teams, but if you look at it in more detail, the Barca or Milan logo has an image of a cross or a red cross on a white base.
The image is similar to the British national flag. Yes, the British Flag is a red cross on a white background. Then why in the logos of Barcelona and AC Milan there is a British flag.?
Associazione Calcio Milan or better known as AC Milan is a club that was founded in 1899 and is headquartered at the San Siro Stadium. In its development, it turned out that AC Milan had experienced an internal dispute that led to the establishment of another Milan club, FC Internazionale Milano. The two teams, AC Milan and Inter Milan, became city rivals who always made the atmosphere of the match hot.
“Rossoneri”, that's AC Milan's nickname which means “red and black”. The nickname was not without reason, because AC Milan wore a uniform with red and black stripes. The black and red colors have been the identity of AC Milan since the team was founded in 1899.
Meanwhile, the AC Milan logo is oval in shape which is a symbol of a shield with in the middle there are two flags, one is the Milan flag and the other is like the British flag.
Of course, many football fans wonder whether the red cross on a white background on the AC Milan logo was brought from England by the club's founder, Herbert Kilpin.

Many AC Milan fans over the years believed that the red cross on a white background in the club's pride logo originated in England.
This is because the founder of AC Milan Herbert Kilpin is indeed from the land of Queen Elizabeth, and it is no secret that the flag of the country whose capital is in London is Saint George's Cross.
Saint George's Cross itself is a red cross or cross on a white background, which from the Late Middle Ages or around the 1100s AD is associated with Saint George who is a military saint who is often depicted as a crusader.
Many people think that the red cross in the Milan logo is a Saint's cross. George, but that's not quite right. The red cross is a Saint's cross. Ambrose. He is a popular patron saint in the city of Milan. The red cross on Inter's away jersey is Saint Ambrose's cross for AC Milan. For many years, the Milan logo was simply the Milan Flag, which was originally the flag of Saint Ambrose.
There are many patrons of Saint George around the world, including Genoa and England. Some people insist that the cross is the cross of St. George because the club was founded by British expats. But it's not quite right. But there are also some opinions which say that the flag is a representation of the flag of the crusade.
The red color in the AC Milan flag symbolizes the team's spirit to beat its opponents. While the black color means the opponent's fear in facing AC Milan.
Another little fact is that the image of the cross existed even before the flag of Saint George's Cross was known and by itself flows as a source that influences all similar and identical to its adherents.
Meanwhile, the Barcelona logo also has its own story. When it was first formed in 1899, FC Barcelona used a logo which was the symbol of the city of Barcelona. The logo is in the shape of a rhombus and is divided into four spaces with a crown on it.
On top of the crown is a bat and beside the rhombus is surrounded by a palm branch on the right and a laurel tree branch on the left. This logo is a form of identity that the club is from Barcelona. The logo lasted for 10 years to be exact until 1910.
In 1908, Barcelona experienced economic instability which put the club in a serious crisis. The club president at that time, Joan Gamper, took a number of policies, one of which was to change the club logo.
In 1910, the club held a competition for all its members to design a new logo. Interestingly, the competition was won by Carles Comamala who was none other than a Barcelona player from 1903 to 1912.

The Barcelona logo we see today is a logo designed by Carles Comamala in 1910. Of course, there have been a number of minor changes to suit the times.
The Barcelona logo is in the form of a shield with two flags in it, namely the Catalan flag and the British flag. Then have you ever wondered why the Barca logo has an English flag? ?
The Saint George's cross, which is embedded in the Blaugrana logo, is a form of appreciation for a crusader who once protected the city of Catalonia, namely Saint George.
In addition, Saint George is also the patron saint of England. So don't be surprised if the British flag is the Saint George Cross flag which is also included in the Barcelona logo.
Now that's footballovers, the history of the British flag contained in the AC Milan and Barcelona logos. Now it's in the year right!!!
