Steps To Disable Sync Center In Windows 10

Microsoft Sync Center is known to be a Microsoft process that is included in all the modern versions of Windows. It is primarily used to synchronize your files with mobile devices over a network location. It also can run in the background and store offline. For example, it will run if you have Internet Explorer set to sync pages for viewing offline. You can kill and disable Sync Center in Windows 10 after startup in the task manager under the processes tab if you want to. However, below in this article, you will find everything you need to know about Sync Center.

How To Use Sync Center In Windows 10?

If you want to use the sync center feature and do not know how to, look at the steps below. This section is meant to provide you with the steps to access and use the Sync Center feature in Windows 10 to manage the offline files.

  • First, open the control panel ad click sync center to continue. In the pop-up menu, you need to click the manage offline files option from the left panel to continue.
  • Then click Enable offline files to open the Windows 10 Sync Center. It may require you to reboot your system to make changes into effect. If not, then you need to do it manually.
  • If you want to sync folders in Windows 10 or manage offline files on your local hard drive, the shared folder on a network server is needed.

To create a shared folder:

• Go to the network and sharing center and click the sharing options.
  • Then check the three options out of it: turn on network discovery, turn on file and printer sharing and then turn off password-protected sharing.
  • You need then to click the save changes to continue. After that, right-click the folder you want to share and choose Properties. Then switch to the Sharing tab and choose the share option.
  • Add everyone to share with and give the control to Read/write. Then click on the share button to continue.
  • After that, go back to the sharing tab and choose the advanced sharing to continue. Next, you need to check the option to share this folder.
  • Finally, click Apply and OK to save the changes.

Once the steps given above are done, you may see that you have the shared folder on the network server. If you want to sync files from the network drive or sync files to it, you will also need to know the IP address of the network server. However, if you do not want to use the feature and simply delete it, then we have the steps for how to disable Sync Center in Windows 10 in the next section.

Stop Sync Center From Running At Startup

If you do not use it and don’t want to keep the Sync Center process running during the startup, you can stop it. To turn off Sync Center in Windows 10, you need to disable the offline files feature. In Windows 10, the quickest way to do that is:

  • Hit the Windows key on your keyboard and copy-paste this – open files and then select the result from the top or hit the enter button.
  • Alternatively, you can open Control Panel and go to Network and Internet and then Offline Files – this is for the previous versions of Windows.
  • Then under the General tab, you need to click the Disable Offline Files button and click OK.
  • You will need to restart your PC to complete the process of disabling the Offline Files.

You need to note that you must only disable this feature if you do not use it. For instance, the user is accessing it with the Windows Home Server at one point, but since that server is now disconnected, the user decided to remove it from startup. If you are not sure if you need to run the process or not, if something stops working after turning it off, you can just go back in and turn Offline Files around on.
