Ashraf Ghani told why he fled Afghanistan

The former President of Afghanistan, Ashraf Ghani, fled Afghanistan so that the "Taliban" would not humiliate the President of the country and force him to sign a document that legitimizes the new government. The politician said this in an interview with CNN .

"The reason for my departure is that I did not want to give the Taliban and their supporters the pleasure of humiliating the Afghan President once again and forcing him to sign a document on the legitimacy of the government." I was never afraid," says Ghani.

According to the former President, at first he had no intention of leaving Afghanistan. When Ghani also answered the journalist's question about whether he had his passport and a large amount of money with him when he left, he limited himself to saying that these statements were baseless.

It should be noted that Ashraf Ghani said in an interview to ABN on August 10 that he is still the legitimate President of Afghanistan.

In August 2021, President Ashraf Ghani was reported to have fled Afghanistan before the Taliban entered Kabul. The "Taliban" said that it entered Kabul only after learning that Ashraf Ghani had left Afghanistan, after first consulting with Washington.

Ghani's escape

For information, on April 14, 2021, the current President of the United States, Joe Biden, announced that he had decided to stop the operation in Afghanistan. It was the longest foreign military campaign in American history. The United States started this war in October 2001. The withdrawal of American troops began in May 2021 and was completed in early September. At the peak of US operations in 2010-2013, the number of Western forces in Afghanistan exceeded 150,000. Major US and NATO combat units were withdrawn from Afghanistan in 2014.

After the United States announced its intention to withdraw its forces, the Taliban launched a large-scale operation to take control of Afghanistan. On August 15 of last year, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani fled abroad and the Taliban entered Kabul without a fight.

On September 6, the Taliban announced control over the entire territory of Afghanistan, and on September 7, they announced the formation of an interim government, the legitimacy of which has not yet been recognized by any country.
