The former leader of Myanmar was imprisoned for another 6 years
A court sentenced Aung San Suu Kyi, a former member of Myanmar's State Council, to six years in prison on four corruption charges. The 77-year-old politician was accused of misusing funds from the Do Khin Chi Foundation, which finances health and education .
Suu Kyi has denied all the charges against her.
Earlier, the court sentenced the leader of the National League for Democracy to five years in prison as part of the first of corruption charges brought against him after the country's coup d'état.
Myanmar's civilian government was overthrown in a military coup on February 1, 2021.
Recall that in 2017, Aung San Suu Kyi was accused of attempting to expel more than 1.4 million Rohingya Muslims living in Myanmar, and even of their genocide.
Such accusations against him were made as a result of inquiries conducted by several influential international law organizations.
