1 Contemplating Creation
there is a way of being in the world
that is alive and sensitive
compassionate and full of love
there is a way of being
that brings serenity to a noisy world
contentment to a world of desire
understanding to a world of entertainment
meditation allows our hearts to flower
with the beauty that is planted there
by the hand of the creator
but now our hearts are hardened
with the dead layers of the past
our history of fear and desire
that guides our reactions in the present
meditation uncovers the past
so that our hearts may beat once more
attentive to the newness of creation
imbued with great sensitivity
to ourselves
to other people
to creation
to god
meditation is about the great joy that arises
when we have right relationship
when we are selfless
special practices and times
may help us in being sensitive
only if meditation informs our lives
setting all duality aside
when we walk or sit
being both relaxed and alert
attentive to the moment
we are at one with the world
when we watch the breath
the spirit of life flowing through us
we are aware of god’s gift
and we breathe with thanksgiving
when we watch sensation
the coming and going
creation sustained and upheld
we learn to trust in change
when we listen to the sounds
of the inner and the outer
we find our voice joins others
in a great prayer of praise
meditation is a wonderful mirror
in which to see ourselves clearly
then all images fall away
as the image-maker dies
meditation is all inclusive
it sees the totality
and that seeing in itself
brings health wholeness and holiness
then you become completely transparent
without any projection
responding to the present
and full of virtue
meditation is a hermitage in our lives
a place to be quiet and holy
a place for honesty and truth
where fears and desires diminish
and in that place we may find
we have opened the window of our hearts
and that the ever-present light
is now able to shine forth
then we may discover
that god is not another thing to seek out
but is that which pervades all things
that which is both within and beyond
the silence upon which the great beauty of life arises
