What Helps Me Stay Energized 80% of the Time Despite Life’s Challenges?
If you’re feeling constantly tired, unmotivated, and drained, it doesn’t mean there’s no way out. Here’s a list of powerful steps that have worked for me and could help you get back to a vibrant, energized life:
Your body always gives signals. Ignoring fatigue, emotions, and inner sensations drains energy. The first step to recovery is paying attention to yourself. What does this mean? Listening to yourself = tuning into your needs.
• What am I feeling in my body right now? Am I too hot/cold? Uncomfortable or relaxed?
• Are my shoes pinching, or do I feel fine?
• Am I full, or do I want another serving?
Little adjustments make a big difference. Pay attention to your physical and emotional state — more on emotions below.
Striving for perfection can drain your energy faster than anything else. Small, consistent steps are the best way to move forward and preserve energy. The same goes for goal setting.
Despite what social media might tell you, success isn’t about doing something perfectly once; it’s about building skills through repetition and consistency. Ask yourself:
• Will I be able to keep going on day two, five, or one hundred if I burn myself out trying to give 100% on day one?
Starting with just 1% effort can keep you going longer.
Even small actions — stepping outside, stretching toward the sun, or doing a quick eye exercise — can recharge you. Don’t always wait for inspiration to start; just begin. Bonus tip: focus entirely on the action for a deeper boost.
By the way, I hosted an awesome live session where we did face exercises that impact the entire body and even the brain. Don’t miss it!
Here’s a truth bomb: smart rest is part of productivity! Yep, read that again. Overworking without breaks leads to burnout. Give yourself space to recover, even if it’s just for an evening.
But remember, rest isn’t only about sleep or binging shows. Did you know there are seven types of rest? For example, if your brain feels overloaded, more information (reels, YouTube, etc.) or overthinking won’t help. Logical, right? Yet we rarely think about it. I’ll dive deeper into this on my course.
5. Master Your Emotions (Don’t Suppress Them)
Emotions either fuel your energy or drain it. Learning to manage (not suppress!) them can unlock new strength. Start by acknowledging your feelings without labeling them as “good” or “bad.”
“I notice I’m feeling shame/anger/fear/guilt…”
I’ve mastered this both in my life and professionally, conducting emotional intelligence training worldwide. Trust me, it’s a game-changer.
What’s the tone of your inner voice? Do you encourage yourself, or are you constantly self-critical? Living in constant tension leads to burnout. Take it from me: pushing yourself too hard leads to exhaustion and regret.
On the flip side, understanding how to break this cycle helps create amazing projects!
7. Surround Yourself with the Right Energy
People and information around you can either energize or drain you. Notice what enters your mental space.
• Violence, scams, tragedies — these things will always exist, but you decide if they dominate your world.
By the way, our brains are wired to focus on negative events over positive ones. I break this down on my course, where I share six more fascinating ideas about how your brain works.
Complexity drains energy. Often, we overcomplicate things to either sabotage ourselves or avoid success altogether. One of the strongest fears is:
“What if it works? What will I do then? The unknown is terrifying!”
Ask yourself: How can I make this simpler?
Sometimes, the best solution is to stop, breathe, and let yourself recover. Slowing down and focusing on the moment also helps your nervous system. The more you practice this, the more resilient you’ll become in stressful situations.
I know this sounds cliché, but it’s harder than it seems. We get so used to taking things for granted — travel, cars, new projects — that they stop bringing joy.
Living only for the future is convenient for consumerism; it keeps you chasing what you don’t have.
But happiness isn’t their goal — it’s yours. Gratitude for what you’ve already achieved can instantly recharge you.
Pro tip: before setting new goals or making vision boards, list the things you’ve already accomplished. It’s powerful.
Unfinished tasks drain more energy than you realize. Ticking off even one small thing can feel incredibly freeing.
When you feel like you have zero energy (been there, as someone who spent months barely leaving the house), pick one small task and finish it. You’ll be amazed at how much energy it gives back.
Saying “no” to draining people and tasks is key to protecting your energy. Start tracking your thoughts to understand what’s happening in your mind in the moment.
These steps not only help restore your energy but can transform your approach to life. If you want to dive deeper into energy management or address personal challenges, I’m here to help with individual sessions. Let’s make it happen!
