Do You Know Which Oil Your Skin Type Can Handle?

We are normally used to seeing the ingredient labels comprising of 20 different carrier oils, essential oils, mineral oils, along with some chemical additives, preservatives, fragrances, colorants etc. And we think, "the more the merrier"! Having 20 different oils will magically transform my skin! Right?

WRONG!

This is where we make the mistake. When you have a headache, do you take a pill for nausea or stomach ache? No, right? So why use 20 different oils, without knowing which oil works for you. Do you really know the components of each oil? Do you know the percentage of oleic acid and linoleic acid in each oil? Well if you do, then BAZINGA! You got it covered. But if you don’t, then please educate yourself on which oils actually work and yield results.

If you have an Oily Skin, you shouldn’t use oils which are heavy or higher in Oleic acid content. They generally have a comedogenic rating of 4; which means it will clog your pores and result in breakouts. Have you seen the difference between Sunflower Oil/ ‘Sarson ka Tel’ and Extra Virgin Olive oil? Which one is thicker? Will you tell by the texture/ feel of it, or will you look up its constituents? Another simple example is difference between coconut oil (something we all are well versed with) and Argan Oil (full of vit E). Both oils are great in their respective fields. Coconut oil is thicker and very high in Oleic Acid content, therefore it is perfect for people with very dry skin. On the other hand, Argan Oil is a lighter oil and has relatively higher amounts of linoleic acid than oleic acid, which makes it perfect for oilier skin types.

So What Have You Learnt?

Still confused? okay, will you wear an oversized blazer, just because its trendy and looks good on Gigi Hadid? :) especially if we are petit and have a smaller frame; it wouldn’t look good on us! So do not get carried away with a trending product or long ingredient list. Some products, may have wonderful exotic oils, but be smart enough to know which one will suit your skin type. Watch out for unnecessary fillers, artificial colorants (Yellow 11, Red 17), Linalool, Limonene (Perfume) and mineral oils. A shorter/ minimal ingredient list is much better, effective and safer.

Simple, purposefully formulated and effective ingredients will always work for you.
