F.A.Q. ArtCamp 2023
We answer your frequently asked questions about ArtCamp 2023 in Vasenthien.
If you don't find the answer to your question, please contact us: kunstcamp.vasenthien@gmail.com
Do I have to pay?
No, participation in ArtCamp is free. Travel costs will be reimbursed, with limited funds available. Also, the organizers of the Camp will provide food during the camp, as well as tickets for the museum and public transportation. You will need a considerable amount of money if you want to buy something during a trip to Hamburg.
Can I take part if I don’t have an art education?
Yes, of course. We understand that classical art education could be a privilege for young people, and not all artists go through this process. Self-taught artists are welcome in our Camp.
What level of English is expected?
We don't require any language certifications, and we will accept applications without information about your language level. However, it would be preferable if your English proficiency level is B1 or higher.
In what media should the work for the exhibition be done?
There are no restrictions on art media. It can be in any visual form, including multidisciplinary approaches, such as video art, installations, sculpture, photography, etc. We are excited to see different visual art forms representing your understanding of "Freedom, Justice, Equality in Relations". Also, it is important to add that it doesn't have to be a voluminous project because the final exhibition will not be presented in a big gallery yet in a small and cosy place.
What does an average day at the ArtCamp look like?
The regular day at the ArtCamp starts at around 9 AM (and at 8 AM for those who prepare breakfast for the day). After breakfast, we have activities such as group work and artist talks. You will have some leisure time before lunch. After lunch, we continue group work and artist talks. Dinner is usually between 7-8 PM, after which we have time for communication or National Evenings. The programme will be designed and planned with participants, and we will listen to their wishes and ideas, so we can put together a more exact schedule afterwards.
Can I participate if I am older than 26?
Our main focus is on young people between 18 and 26 y.o. However, we can invite one person older than 26 y.o. per group (one person per Belarusian, German, Serbian and Ukrainian team). But you need to understand that the applications from artists between 18 and 26 y.o. are preferable to us. We understand that there are a lot of older artists eager to participate, but unfortunately, our ArtCamp has certain limitations on which we’ll be working in the upcoming years.
Can I participate if my citizenship is not Belarusian, German, Serbian or Ukrainian?
At this moment, unfortunately, you can not. We will work on this question, and maybe next year, we will broaden the number of countries that can participate.
Why only people from Belarus, German, Serbia and Ukraine can participate?
JANUN Hannover e.V. has been working with partner organisations in Ukraine, Belarus and Serbia for over 20 years. We are happy if this works out, even in these difficult times. The promotion of international understanding and cooperation is very important to us.
The Art Camp is developed and co-designed by artists from participating countries. Without their voluntary commitment, the program would not be possible. Due to the funding for this project, the participation is limited to a smaller number of partner countries. Therefore, we cannot tender the camp Europe-wide, for example.
Can I participate if, for example, I am Belarusian, but I’m not living in Belarus or Poland?
At the moment, we are focusing on these countries because of the funding of ArtCamp. If you want to participate from another region, please contact us directly at kunstcamp.vasenthien@gmail.com for consultation and describe to us your current situation.
Is it necessary to live in tents outdoors?
The ArtCamp is located in the village, far away from cities. There is not enough space for beds, so you need to be prepared to sleep outdoors in tents. It is not a luxury all-inclusive art residence, but it is a unique place and an opportunity to be in connection with nature.
Is there Wi-Fi in ArtCamp?
Yes, we do have Wi-Fi. The connection is not always strong, but our main focus is real-time communication and getting to know each other to make real-life connections strong :-)
When will the application results be available?
You’ll be notified no later than the 9th of April via the email that you left in the Application Form.
Do you offer help with visas?
Yes, we help participants get visas. If that's the case, please leave the information that you have no visa in the Application Form.
