To interact with other blockchains, each validator is assigned a part of the public/private key.
The set of all validators holding the key can directly interact with another blockchain. Because of the key, Zetachain can allow assets to be stored on other blockchains that do not support smart contracts like Bitcoin.
Zetachain’s vision is to be a blockchain that links all the different important blockchains. On top of that, decentralized applications can be easily built on cross-chains.
Prior to Zetachain the divergence of different cross-chain solutions created a larger date fragmentation.
Once Zetachain is in place, users and developers can easily work on different blockchains seamlessly. An Omnichain dApp model is established.
The structure of Zetachain consists of a distributed network of nodes, commonly known as validators. In each validator are ZetaCore and ZetaClient. ZetaCore is responsible for producing the blockchain and maintaining it.
ZetaClient is responsible for monitoring events on external chains and signing transactions that are sent.
Each validator node can vote on proposals with voting power proportional to the number of Zeta tokens staking.
Observers: To obtain consensus from off-chain events, consensus is required from these ob-servers.
Signers: Zetachain shares keys for authentic interaction with external chains. The keys are distributed to many signers, but on behalf of Zetachain, most of their signatures are needed.
$ZETA is a token representing the Zetachain protocol, used to pay gas fees for the network and maintain blockchain security through bonding/staking/slashing.
According to the Zetachain team, they use $ZETA to represent the cross-chain value because:
Reduce the representation of the same type of property because there is no need to wrap that property anymore.
Reduce attacks, make audits easy, and improve security because only the original values are cross-chained via $ZETA.
Use $ZETA as fees for the services that Zetachain provides .
