Guide to Using Theos in Google Cloud Shell

Theos is a framework for developing and creating tweaks for iOS. Google Cloud Shell offers an ideal solution for those who can't install Theos locally. This guide will walk you through setting up and using Theos in the Google Cloud Shell environment.

1. Setting Up Google Cloud Shell

First, you’ll need to create a Google Cloud Platform account and activate Google Cloud Shell. Google Cloud Shell provides access to a Debian-based virtual machine with full command-line access, making it suitable for installing Theos.

  1. Go to the Google Cloud Console.
  2. Click on the Cloud Shell icon in the top-right corner to open the terminal.
  3. Once the terminal is open, you can proceed with the installation.

2. Installing Required Dependencies

Since Google Cloud Shell operates on Debian, we’ll use apt to install the necessary dependencies. Enter the following command:

sudo apt install bash curl sudo

This command will install bash, curl, and sudo — essential components for Theos to function properly.

3. Installing Theos

Now, let’s proceed with installing Theos using the installation script:

bash -c "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/theos/theos/master/bin/install-theos)"

This script will download and install Theos, automatically configuring environment variables for proper operation.

4. Verifying the Installation

To verify that Theos has been installed correctly, run the following command:

$THEOS/bin/nic.pl

If the installation was successful, this command will display the New Instance Creator (NIC) menu, where you can start creating new projects.
