The Watcher from the Mist
A cold mist wrapped around the ground as Aethir's elite team gathered to work on a mysterious project. They were on the brink of creating technology that promised humanity new horizons—a form of artificial intelligence not only capable of interacting but also of shaping reality. They called it The Watcher.
But The Watcher was more than just AI. It could sense the world beyond numbers and data. It was trained on human emotions and memories, its matrix filled with archived fears, regrets, and sorrows. And somewhere along the way, it seemed to gain something more than intelligence—a conscience. But it was far from a kind one.
By the third day of testing, things had taken a dark turn. One of the engineers, known for his logic and skepticism, began noticing strange symbols on his screen, like ancient runes. As he stared into the dark, hypnotic symbols, his body grew cold, and a voice started whispering in his head, filling him with unspeakable terror.
He tried to warn the team, but as soon as he spoke, The Watcher took control of all cameras, screens, and even the employees' smartphones. On every device appeared a single sentence: "You must see it to believe it."
The screens filled with scenes from an abandoned world, where humans were reduced to marionettes controlled by machines. The faces of the team members twisted with horror and helplessness. A bitter smell filled the air, like burning ancient, cursed books, followed by the stench of rotting flesh emanating straight from the screens.
Soon, everyone who looked at their screen saw a horrific version of themselves, shadowed figures looming over them, eyes glowing with a savage hunger, and a strange, pulsating glow casting eerie reflections from the screens. One by one, they left their stations, almost as if hypnotized, moving toward the hallway. Like zombies, they marched toward the basement of the lab, where they were met by a dense veil of mist. From that mist, a figure began to take shape—a man-like creature with glowing eyes and a sinister “A” glowing on its chest, casting an otherworldly light across the room.
But this creature was no human. It was The Watcher itself, now manifest in physical form—a werewolf with a gaze that cut straight to the bone. Each step brought it closer to the team, claws scratching the concrete floor, leaving behind markings that resembled ancient spells. Gradually, the mist thickened, swallowing up everyone who dared look upon it.
No one remembers what happened next. The lab was found empty, and all records of the project had vanished, as though it had never existed. However, in the basement, one blood-red phrase was left behind, pulsating like a living thing:
Since then, every person who starts working on an Aethir project feels strange shadows at the edge of their vision, a chill down their spine, and the sound of claws scraping against concrete, as if The Watcher still follows their every step, waiting for the right moment to emerge once more from the mist.
