“Emancipation”: Will Smith’s upcoming movie is already buzzed for Oscar Award

Will Smith’s upcoming slavery film “Emancipation”, which is nominated for Oscar 2023, will premiere on December 2 on Apple TV.

Emancipation: Will Smith's upcoming movie buzzed for Oscar

Will Smith, as known, could be running for the Best Actor award at next year’s Oscars after the trailer is released for his next film.

Despite being banned from the Academy Awards for the next ten years, viewers say “Emancipation” could be as big as his role in King Richard when it drops on Apple TV on December 2nd.

The project was initially pushed back following Smith’s Oscars slap scandal earlier this year, where the 54-year-old star-struck host Chris Rock across the face in the wake of a disparaging joke about Smith’s wife.

Emancipation is based on the true story of an enslaved Black person (played by Smith in the film) who escaped from a Louisiana plantation in the 1860s to travel north and begin fighting in the Union Army during the American Civil War.

The gritty role is an exciting choice for Smith, who had previously turned down the lead role in Django Unchained as he didn’t want to be associated with a film about slavery.

He told GQ in 2021 that he would instead take up roles that ‘depict Black excellence’ and therefore turned down the Tarantino film.

“That was about love and the power of Black love, and something I could rock with,” Smith briefed The Guardian.

“We proceeded to make a story about how Black love drives us unbeatable.”

Oh, how things can change.

But one thing is sure; if Smith gets nominated or takes out the top gong at next year’s Oscars, he won’t be there to receive it in person.

The Academy headed in April that Smith would be deterred from attending the ceremony for a decade due to the on-stage skirmish with Rock moments before he won Best Actor for “King Richard.”

But now, Apple TV has conducted a U-turn by bringing Liberation to screens in December, indicating that Smith will make the cut-off date for nominations for the Academy Awards 2023.

The update will likely welcome news for the film’s director Antoine Fuqua.

The Emancipation director showered praise on Smith despite the Oscars moment pushing him back.

Will Smith, a great man; I was with him for a couple of years, making this movie. He is an amazing partner and did an excellent job on this movie.” Fuqua told Deadline

Fuqua added his two cents worth about Chris Rock and the slap that rocked the 2022 Oscars.

Smith has since apologized to Chris Rock via a video message on his YouTube channel.

Will Smith is nowadays best-known for his 2022 Oscars catchphrase’: ‘Call my wife’s name out your fucking mouth!”

But millions of viewers are presumably unaware he had spent years before that of a catchphrase that made him box office gold rather than a Hollywood outcast.

He first yelled his catchphrase when battling giant green aliens on 1996’s Independence Day.

Will then went on to yell it in Seven Pounds, all three of the Men In Black films, in which he appeared as Agent J and the Bad Boys blockbusters.

It’s also cropped up in me, Robot, and Suicide Squad.

And the infamous phrase is? “Aw, hell no!”

He loves it so much that he yells it in nine of his 29 flicks, which grossed £5,959,535,863.31.

It hasn’t gone unnoticed by fans who say Will attempts to create a movie catchphrase as iconic as Arnold Schwarzenegger’s “I’ll be back.”

Others have advised on Twitter he would have been better simply uttering it at this year’s Oscars in response to Chris’ gag instead of slapping the stand-up.

One, after watching the slap, stated: “Aw hell no. On national TV, Will Smith? Thank Chris Rock for taking it like a grown-up and still professional.”

One said online: “Security: We’d like you to leave. Will Smith: Aw, hell no! Security: OK, carry on.”

Another remarked: “I wonder if, before Will Smith stood up to step to the scene, he spoke to himself, ‘Aw, hell no.’”

Aside from apologizing to Chris in an Instagram video and screaming about a spider crawling in his house, Will has been in virtual ouster since his Slapgate row.

If he takes a role in the upcoming film he is set to produce, it would be his first acting role since slapping Chris Rock.

Based on Marcus Sakey’s novel trilogy Brilliance, the flick is set in a future where non-neurotypical people — demonized by society as ‘twists’ or ‘abnormal’ — are threatening the status quo of the ‘normal’ inhabitants with their special gifts.

An endorsement for the film states: “They are officially marked as “Brilliants” and are carefully followed by the government.”

Soon, Smith will pop up in Emancipation, an Apple TV+ project.

In Antoine Fuqua’s true-story film, he performs as a runaway slave in Louisiana.

According to Variety, Will’s plunging popularity since Slapgate has seen his star power rating go from 39 to 24 between January and July 2022.

Chris Gardner in Will Smith’s “The Pursuit of Happyness”

The real-life inspiration behind Will Smith‘s character in The Pursuit of Happyness has revealed how missing a flight saved his life over twenty years ago.

Chris Gardner, on Instagram, announced to his 216,000 followers how he cut a plane headed to New York, but that misstep saved his life.

Chris Gardner is the inspiration for the 2006 movie The Pursuit of Happyness, starring Will Smith.

Smith performs Gardner as he works to make a triumph of his business and his one-year effort with homelessness.

Based on Gardner’s autobiography, published in 2006, the film depicts Gardner’s struggle to parent his young son against the backdrop of San Francisco in 1981.

The movie grossed $163 million domestically at the box office and over $300 million worldwide and earned Will Smith an Academy Award Nomination for Best Actor.

Will Smith’s Statement After Slapping Chris Rock At The Oscars

Will Smith has given a formal statement following his jaw-dropping slap on Chris Rock at the Oscars.

The Academy Award-winner published a message on his Instagram where he realized his actions were not in keeping with his vision of ‘love and kindness.

“Violence is toxic and destructive,” he said. “I misbehaved last night at the Academy Awards.”

“Jokes are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith was too much for me to bear, I responded emotionally.

“I would like to apologise to you, Chris, publicly. I was out of line, and I was wrong.

“There is no space for violence in a world of love.” I would also like to apologise to the Academy, the producers, the attendees, and everyone watching worldwide.

“I apologise for my actions. I am a work in progress.”

At the Oscars, Chris Rock called out Jada Smith before presenting the award for Best Documentary.

Jada Pinkett was sitting with her husband Will in the front row when the comedian joked about her shaven head.

Jada, I love you — G.I. Jane 2, can’t wait to see it!” Rock narrated her as a nod to Demi Moore’s 1997 film G.I. Jane.

Initially, Will Smith was laughing along, but Jada wasn’t, and at one point, she rolled her eyes as Rock tried to defend himself, saying: “That was a nice one!”

Moments later, Smith stepped up on stage and slapped a stunned Rock before heading back to his seat.

Will Smith just smacked me,” Rock told the audience.

Smith yelled, “Keep my wife’s name out your fucking mouth”. Jada Smith has earlier spoken about her ‘struggle’ with alopecia, saying that while she wants to ‘be chums’ with her hair loss, it’s not an easy ride.

Jada Smith with her mother and daughter participated in the chat show “Red Table Talk”. They opened their house for the show and discussed a variety of topics there.
