Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara will star together in new film

Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara will return to share the set in director Pawel Pawlikowski’s new film ‘The Island’.

Rooney Mara and Joaquin Phoenix are bringing their love story to the big screen with director Pawel Pawlikowski’s new film tentatively titled ‘The Island‘, where the star of ‘The Fair of Illusions — Nightmare Alley‘ and the Commodus from Gladiator will work side by side.

The film starring Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara will be inspired by the story that happened and will tell the life of an American couple of the 1930s who decide to turn their backs on civilization and the frenzy of modern times to build their corner of paradise on a desert island.

The project, however, turns out to be much more complex than expected, especially after a countess tries to take possession of the atoll to kick off the construction of a luxury hotel dedicated to a super-select and wealthy clientele.

This will kick off a storyline full of intrigue, betrayal, and infidelity that will even lead a character from the film to commit murder.

For Phoenix and Rooney, it will not be the first time in which the couple will share the screen: the love story between the two was born on the set of the film Her in 2012, where Mara played Joaquin’s ex-wife, today struggling with the making of Joker 2, in which the cast will also be Lady Gaga in the role of Harley Quinn.

The relationship between the two celebs began with great amazement on the part of Phoenix, who, during an interview with Vanity Fair, said that at the beginning of the acquaintance with Rooney, he was more than sure that the colleague was not at all interested in him.

After also starring together in Mary Magdalene in 2016, Mara and Phoenix got engaged in great secrecy in 2019.

In September 2020, the couple welcomed their first child, River Phoenix, whose name is a tribute to his brother. Joaquin Phoenix died of an overdose at the age of 23 in 1993.
