Angelina Jolie as Maria Callas in her new film
After Spencer’s success with Kristen Stewart, director Pablo Larrain chose the American actress Angelina Jolie to step into the role of the famous opera singer.
Angelina Jolie will play Maria Callas in the new film by director Pablo Larraín dedicated to the famous opera singer.
After bringing Kennedy’s wife back to life in the 2016 film Jackie (which chronicled the assassination of JFK) and having Kristen Stewart wear the role of Princess Diana in Spencer, Larraín has decided to dedicate his new biopic to the “Divine” of music, entrusting this character as iconic as multifaceted to Angelina Jolie.
The biopic, which will be titled Maria, will tell the tumultuous, compelling, incredible, and at the same time tragic story of the greatest opera singer who ever lived, whose last days of life in 1970s Paris are relived and re-imagined by the director Pablo Larraín.
Angelina Jolie’s new film
As stated by Variety, a vital role is one that Jolie will have to face by stepping into the role of Callas, stated the actress herself during a meeting with the press.
“I take responsibility for Mary’s life and legacy very seriously. I will do everything to fulfill the challenge. Pablo is a director I have long admired. Having the chance to tell more of Maria’s story with him, and with the screenplay by Steven Knight (formerly author of Peaky Blinders, ed), is a dream,” said Angelina Jolie.
Maria Callas was born in Manhattan in 1923 and received her opera training in Greece, where she moved at the age of 13 before moving to Italy, a country where her career took off, and she became one of the singers of the world.
Most famous work of the early 20th century. During her life, the artist has faced extreme myopia that made her almost blind, as well as numerous scandals related to her private life (she had a relationship with Aristotle Onassis, the future husband of Jacqueline Kennedy) and professional (the rivalry with the Italian opera singer Renata Tebaldi is now history).
The announcement that the former Tomb Rider star will be the face of Maria Callas has sparked a lot of curiosity about this film, whose release should not occur before the end of 2023.
The wait to be able to watch the film is not. It will be, therefore, negligible. Still, luckily it will be tempered by the release of Senza Blood, the film with Salma Hayek that will see Angelina (protagonist of the news for the much talked about Jolie-Pitt legal battle ) return behind the camera after the successes as director obtained with First they killed my father, By the sea and Unbroken.
