Retrospect: New Mitsubishi Mirage landed in Thailand together with Attrage in 2019
In the subcompact segment, Mitsubishi can't beat the Mirage hatchback and Mitsubishi Attrage sedan. Both were updated once, and for the 2020 model year an even bigger update was made to keep city dwellers up to date with the latest technology available.
The most notable change of 2019 is the Dynamic Shield styling language, particularly the grille full of chrome accents. LED headlights are also present, connected to the grille for more visual drama than before. The square rear bumper is complemented by LED taillights, but the interior leaves a lot to be desired. In particular, plastics are still too cheap.
There's no denying that the Smartphone Display Audio infotainment system with a 7.0-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto is a step up, but the rest of the cabin is crammed with materials that you won't want in your car. . Top-of-the-line models can feature synthetic leather, contrasting stitching and piping, and there's even synthetic carbon fiber for a sportier feel.
Mitsubishi couldn't confirm what kind of sportiness is under the hood, driving the front wheels using either a manual or continuously variable JATCO transmission. The automaker noted in the 2020 Mirage and Attrage press release that current models are "powered by a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated engine" known as code 3A92.
The US spec is happy with 78 horsepower and 74 pound-feet of torque, which means you'll have to crank the MIVEC four-cylinder engine at full throttle to hit the road at the same speed as the rest of the traffic. . Therefore, overtaking is not the strong point of this car.
Known as the Space Star in Europe, the Mirage hatchback and Attrage sedan also benefit from new 15-inch alloy wheels with a diamond finish and two-tone color scheme. Two new exterior paint options have also been added to the palette, namely White Diamond and Sand Yellow (pictured).
Scheduled to hit dealerships in the first half of 2020, Mirage and Attrage are sold in more than 90 and 60 countries respectively. Mitsubishi also described the pair as "global strategy cars," which helped the Japanese automaker sell around 650,000 and 280,000 units in September 2019.
