RWD Platform and Inline-6 Engine will be the promised new equipments of the 2023 Mazda CX-5
Mazda has turned to a new page of its chapter in 2019. All new versions of all its cars can not escape from the revolution began with the luxurious and stylish Mazda3, including a CX-5 crossover based on a rear-wheel drive platform, just like the next-generation Mazda6.
While the following report has a strong hint of speculation, it is also based on reality. Mazda has blurted out that it is developing a 6 engine online through management statements and a patent application.
Early reports indicated that the engine was developed for the next generation Mazda6, which is transitioning to an RWD platform. According to a new scoop article from the Japanese site Best Car Web, the 6th will arrive in March 2022.
This new engine would have a displacement of 3 liters, outputs of up to 300 hp and relatively low fuel consumption thanks to spark ignition technology. Not surprisingly, Mazda doesn't want to reserve such advanced technology for just one car.
The next-generation Mazda CX-5 will also ride on this front-engined, rear-wheel drive platform. It is expected to be bigger to compete with the BMW X3 and is expected to arrive in January 2023. We are witnessing an influx of sports crossovers and SUVs from Asian automakers and that couldn't put us in a better mood.
The same report also talks about upgrades to smaller models. The Mazda2 will be the first to arrive in September 2021, and while it's not a model that we can buy in America, everything is expected to carry over to the sister vehicle Toyota Yaris. On the engine side, the subcompact would get a smaller version of the Skyactiv-X for the higher trim level.
This 1.5-liter turbo promises to deliver decent power and will also be installed in the CX-3. Its arrival is estimated to be on June 2022. Otherwise, those cars will essentially be cheaper, condensed versions of the Mazda3.
