DFS Associates: How to reach success as a manufacturer’s representative

DFS Associates already provided a few tips on their previous post regarding becoming a manufacturer’s representative and properly getting the job, the group now aims to give some helpful advice on how to become successful on this career.

The group strongly believes that success is plausible through building a firm relationship between the manufacturer’s representative’s principles and the clients. Similar to DFS Associates, you must consider very well the designs and requirements of your clients that should be compatible with your product lines. It’s no surprise that DFS can represent the largest and best companies in the industry because of their extensive understanding and knowledge of their customer’s base and needs.

In addition, the success of a manufacturer’s representative also depends on the success of the manufacturer and its products. In representing a product or service, you need to smartly know about the manufacturer first and as said in DFS’s previous post, do proper research into the business activities as well.

If the manufacturing business is located in the United States, we advise you to get your needed information through the Better Business Bureau (BBB) office of the manufacturer’s city, but if it is found outside the United States, then contact the professional association the manufacturer has been a part of. You can find manufacturers associations around the globe through the official site of The International Association of Manufacturers.

Secondly, go to your local county clerk’s office to register your business and get your Doing Business As or DBA or Assumed Name certificate. In order to incorporate your business, you need to go to your state comptroller’s office. With your DBA certificate or Article of Incorporation, you can also open a business bank account through your local bank.

Thirdly, whatever business it is, the location will remain a crucial element. Search for the perfect location in opening your business. Prepare documents necessary for acquiring a telephone and broadband services and go to your local telephone company. You may also contact your local cable company and get similar services from them. Design your office according to your preferred style and hire reliable employees.

Lastly, if you have employees or if your business is incorporated, then don’t forget to get your Employer Identification Number (EIN) from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

As an ending note, DFS Associates would like you to remember that no matter what career you’re pushing into, always dream big, work hard, stay focused and surround yourself with good people to reach the success you’re dreaming of.
