USS Montana (BB-67) is coming soon

Hello, Commanders! Today, we’re shining the spotlight on a powerful and incredible project that, unfortunately, never made it to completion. We’re talking about the battleship Montana, which was designed to be a true terror of the seas.

USS Montana (BB-67) was the last type of battleship designed for the United States Navy.

Montana was planned as the lead ship in a series of five battleships. It was the third vessel to be named after the state of Montana, and its construction was set to take place at the famous Philadelphia Navy Yard. If completed, Montana could have been one of the largest and best-protected battleships of its time. However, plans changed, and the orders for BB-67, as well as its predecessor BB-51, were never fulfilled.

⚓️ Interesting fact: Montana was designed to be the "big brother" of the Iowa-class battleships, surpassing them in both protection and firepower. But the era of battleships was coming to an end, with aircraft carriers quickly taking center stage.

As a result, Montana remained a legend on paper. But now, you have the chance to bring it to life in the game! Are you ready to take command and unleash the power of this steel giant?

We’re waiting for you in port, commanders. Meet our version of this legendary battleship!

Armament:

  1. Missile battery CHAMP [2х1]
  2. Cannon 16"/50 Mark 7 (406mm) [4х1] (locked)
  3. Cannon 5"/54 Mark 16 (127mm) [6х1] (locked)
  4. Torpedo launcher Mark 48 (533mm) [2х1]
  5. Helicopter RAH-66 Comanche [1х1]
  6. Autocannon Bofors 40 L/60 MK 12 (40mm) [6х1] (locked)
  7. Air Defense Sea Ram [2х1]
  8. Air Defense Sea Ram [2х1]
  9. Air Defense Sea Ram [2х1]
  10. Air Defense THAAD [2х1] (locked)

The project was designed as an improved successor to the Iowa-class battleships, with a focus on enhanced armor and powerful weaponry. However, this came at the cost of reduced maximum speed. Thanks to a modernization package, the battleship received significant upgrades: several systems and modules were replaced with cutting-edge, high-tech components.

Particular attention during the modernization process was given to air defense. The new defensive systems include two silo-based THAAD air defense systems, as well as three air defense slots, each capable of housing two anti-aircraft turrets. These systems are complemented by six positions equipped with Bofors 40 L/60 MK 12 autocannons. The upgraded fire control systems for the autocannons allow them to automatically engage both aerial threats and small surface targets, providing comprehensive protection for the battleship.

For long-range engagements, the ship is equipped with the capability to launch two CHAMP missiles, which can be replaced with other types of anti-ship missile systems depending on mission requirements. Additionally, torpedo launchers are installed on board, enabling effective combat against both surface ships and enemy submarines.

To expand reconnaissance and strike capabilities, a helicopter pad has been added to the stern of the ship. This platform is suitable for deploying any helicopter available in the arsenal, making the battleship even more versatile in combat scenarios.

Despite these extensive upgrades, Montana's classic artillery remains a critical component of its combat potential. The main battery consists of 16"/50 Mark 7 guns with a 406 mm caliber, mounted in four powerful turrets capable of delivering devastating blows to surface targets. Supporting these are 5"/54 Mark 16 secondary guns with a 127 mm caliber, effective for finishing off or severely damaging enemy ships.

In summary, the modernization has transformed USS Montana into not only a symbol of historical naval power but also a cutting-edge combat vessel capable of handling any challenge in modern warfare.

Stay tuned to official updates so you don't miss the arrival of the legendary battleship USS Montana in the world of Modern Warships!
