........................................
The zoo is located almost in the center of Moscow, next to the garden ring between the streets of Krasnaya Presnya, Bolshaya Gruzinskiy Val and Zoologicheskaya. The main entrance is located near the metro stations "Barrikadnaya" (purple line) and "Krasnopresnenskaya" (ring).
The zoo was opened in 1864. For more than 150 years, the zoo has survived not only financially difficult periods, but also the Great Patriotic War, after which it was quickly restored, however. After the reconstruction in 1900, things went uphill, and the zoo acquired its modern look.
The Moscow Zoo now has at its disposal two territories - Old and New, which are in connected by a bridge for crossing. A new territory appeared quite recently, but it is not inferior to its "elder sister" in terms of fullness and abundance of species.
"Where to go, what to do?"
Look at animals, birds and insects
And there is someone to look at. The Moscow Zoo is home to 1,132 species of animals and more than five thousand individuals. It's hard to imagine, but you can see. Penguins, pandas and mongooses are especially popular, it seems that they are never empty near their enclosures.
It is very difficult to make an ideal day when there will not be a lot of people, because in good weather there are always a lot of not only tourists, but also Muscovites.
Go on an excursion
The Moscow Zoo has many excursion programs. You can book a group tour or join a team in the evenings and at weekends. And in bad weather you can go on a "warm" tour of the covered pavilions with exotic animals and plants.
Most excursions are 6+, but for young people there are their own special excursions, on which children can not attend.
See animal feeding
Before you go to the zoo, check out the schedule of indicative feedings on the official website of the Moscow Zoo to see exactly the desired animals not sleeping. During feeding, they are most active and do not hide in their houses, which allows you to see not only the paws and nose of a resting animal.
To eat
In both areas of the zoo there is a "Zoo buffet", where you can have a meal after or before (for the most hungry) walks in the zoo. In addition to refreshing drinks and corn, ice cream and huge cotton candy are very popular in summer at buffets.
If you take cotton candy you must take wet wipes because no matter how carefully you eat it, you will be in sugar anyway.
Buy souvenirs
Also at the zoo there is a small souvenir shop where you can buy mugs, postcards, badges, t-shirts and even phone cases with the dearest inhabitants of the Moscow Zoo.
