8 Factors to Consider While Hiring a Storage Unit

After spending a year of classes, hosting parties, or meeting up with friends after a long gap, you would have accumulated a lot of stuff that may be now eating up a big part of your home. And to make the home more organized, you need to be removing a lot of stuff. But since almost every item has got its relevance, you don’t feel like throwing them away. No worries! Just hire a storage unit and resolve your problems.

It is a great option but you need to remember that not all storage units are the same. The point is not just the difference in storage space quotes but there is a lot more. We’ve devised a helpful list of things 8 things you need to consider when choosing a storage unit:

1. Size of the unit: Size matters when it comes to a storage facility. You need to consider the square footage of the space including the ceiling height. Make a list of items you consider storing inside. Your storage facility size would greatly be based on this.

2.The duration you would need it: Most storage units are available on a monthly rental basis. So you need to calculate how long you would require it. Some units are available for a short duration while some need to be hired for a longer period. A few moving labor companies offer storage facilities and when you hire it along with the services, the rental would be adjusted along with the cost for moving labor services.

3.Self-service or full-service: What is your choice of storage unit –self-service or full-storage?  This is based on how much access you have to the storage units. A self-service storage facility provides allows you to access your unit whenever you want, and you’ll likely have your key and lock. On the other hand, there will be a control on the access to full-service storage units. Also, full-service storage units will pick up and deliver the belongings. However, the storage space quote will be higher for these units.

4.The location of the unit: The location of the storage unit is highly crucial for two reasons – accessibility and cost. While you are storing items that you frequently need, it is best to hire a unit nearby. But that will cost more. Storage unit facilities are less expensive outside of urban areas and you can consider one when the cost is a big issue.

5.A climate-controlled unit is costly: Do you need a storage unit with the climate-control feature? This is expensive but suitable to store electronic devices that need a moderate climate inside for proper maintenance.

6. Safety and surveillance factor: Before you hire a storage unit, confirm whether you need video monitoring or in-person surveillance. This promises better security of the items stored inside. A perfectly lit storage unit is more convenient to access at any time of the day.

7.Accessibility and convenience: Before you hire a storage unit, decide whether you need 24x7 access to it or not. Some are open 24-hours a day, especially if they’re self-service. But a full-service storage unit will have limited access and is convenient to store winter types of equipment or stuff of that sort that you may not need till the next season.

8. Read the online reviews: Before you agree to a storage facility quote, read the online reviews and understand how users have ranked the facility provider. Whether a moving labor service company is providing a unit, reading the reviews of the company would help you develop an opinion. Remember that some people who post online reviews may not be genuine and reading more review sections would be the best solution here.
