Неожиданно узнала, что те kittens, которые lost mittens, потеряли вовсе не перчатки, как я всегда, поверив в детстве Маршаку, считала, а варежки.
Ужасное потрясение.

Update: Оказалось, что оригинал еще и гораздо длиннее: перчатки, то есть варежки, не только теряли и находили, но еще пачкали и стирали:

Three little kittens, they lost their mittens,

"O mother dear,
We very much fear,
That we have lost our mittens."
Lost your mittens!
