Day 14 — Daily Life + Academic Passage → Reading Simulation

Phase II · Targeted Drills · Reading · Day 14 of 30 · ⏱ ~2 hours

📍 You are here: Day 13 · Complete the Words → Day 14 · Module 2 drills + full Reading Simulation → Day 15 · Listening drills

Today you drill the two Module 2 task types, then put the whole section together in a full adaptive simulation — the first time you experience the routing exactly as the real test delivers it.

🎯 Today's goal: Hit the timing targets on Daily Life and Academic Passage, then complete one full Reading module simulation under test conditions.

You're done when: you've run the simulation start-to-finish, once, without pausing.

⏰ Step 1 — Warm-Up: Purpose vs Detail

🎯 Step 4 — Daily Life + Academic Passage drill · ~40 min

Daily Life: 5 items ≤60s each · Academic Passage: 2 passages, 6 min each

Use fresh material from the "Websites for TOEFL Practice" section (mytoefl.io, FluentPrep, and the Reading practice sets) — pick passages you haven't seen.

🟢 Band 4→5 Read the questions first, then scan. For Daily Life, match the question word (Why → purpose, What → detail).
🔵 Band 5→6 Push accuracy on inference and synonym-trap options — the ones that reuse a word from the text but change the meaning.

🧪 Step 5 — Reading Adaptive Module Simulation · ~45 min

Run a full, timed Reading section: Module 1 (routing) → then Module 2. Do it in one sitting, strict timing, no pausing, no re-listening to your instinct.

⚠️ Treat Module 1 as if your band depends on it — because it does. Aim for high accuracy early to "unlock" the harder Module 2 in your own mind, then push through.

Use a full Reading set from the "Websites for TOEFL Practice" section.

📚 Step 6 — Daily vocabulary

10 new words + review, with spaced repetition (Vocabulary System).

💡 Pro Tips

  • Questions before passage — always. Two minutes invested up front saves four minutes of re-reading.
  • Daily Life is pragmatic, not academic. Read it the way you'd read a bus-stop notice — fast, for the gist and the action.
  • Simulate, don't study. The point of today is doing it under time, not learning new content — build exam stamina.
  • Log your simulation weak spot so Day 27's review targets exactly the right task type.
