Why is it crucial to build better habits?

Human beings develop a particular habit, namely, established or settled tendency which acquires the character of a need in a certain situation. Nowadays, everyone builds both healthy and horrid coexisting habits unintentionally on a daily basis. Nevertheless, if the former one helps us to be self-confident, stay in good trim, to know which path we need to choose, then the latter habits act destructively both on the body and on self-esteem.

A habit is usually built in the process of repeated performance of an action at that stage of its development, when during its performance there are no longer any cognitive difficulties. According to the behavioral psychotherapy, some habits can be replaced by others and there is a list of the reasons why detrimental habits should be eliminated:

  1. Deliberate actions and a clear mind: it is commonly thought that an individual can get away from his / her problems and avoid all of the risky situations while they are having fun or indulging, whereas most of the misfortunes happen to those who have become victims of harmful habits;
  2. Long-lasting life: it is obvious that bad habits negatively affect life expectancy, both physically and mentally;
  3. Harmonious relationships: relationships between two personalities are built on mutual understanding, which are maintained and strengthened with good habits;
  4. Salubrity/strong immune system: getting rid of detrimental habits negatively affecting human health allows you to strengthen the body's immune system;
  5. Acknowledgment of necessity in self-development and progression: the presence of good habits, as time management, allows the achievement of personal development in many areas of human activity.

After making decisions in favor of wholesome habits, it will seem that your whole life is a collection of bad habits and afflictions, and you finally understand that it is high time you changed your life, starting tomorrow. You hold on for a while, and then you say: "Once does not count". Consequently, you break down. Try to take small steps first: focus on one habit at a time. Gradually, you can get rid of every single one.
