World History in Anime

Ever wondered about educating yourself through anime? There is an entire category of Japanese series that will give viewers a glimpse of interesting historical time periods. Here are some shows that will take you a little deeper into world history.

1. Spice and Wolf

“Spice and Wolf” is about a merchant travelling medieval Europe-inspired world, that comes across the Wise Wolf, who had been worshipped as a harvest goddess. The concept of economics, featured in this romance, teaches us the principles of buying on credit, loans, currency standards, economic bubbles, and other basic terms surrounding the micro- and macroeconomic spheres. This will give you a broad understanding of the European model of medieval economics.

2. Rainbow

Historically, the adjustment period after Japan lost World War II wasn’t a great time for the Japanese people. Criminal action among teens had become more and more common, and the story tells us about a group of 7 boys that were sent to a reformatory in the 1950s. In this series, viewers will witness how the war has changed people and society.

3. Hetalia Axis Powers

Hetalia allows viewers to explore the political issues during the interwar period between the two world wars in a fun comedic atmosphere. The countries were humanized based on their stereotypes. This series can give you a good insight into the real significant events about the relationships between the Allies and the Central Powers and other forces that have witnessed this period.
