Foxconn factory hit by ransomware attack
A ransomware operation that uses the LockBit 2.0 ransomware claims to have hit Foxconn Baja California and is threatening to release stolen information on June 11, unless the victim pays up.
This factory specializes in medical devices, consumer electronics and industrial operations. The facility has 5,000 employees.
It’s still unclear if the ransomware attack had any impact on operational technology systems.
This is not the first time Foxconn has been hit by ransomware. In December 2020, the company confirmed that some of its systems in the United States had been targeted in a cyberattack after the DoppelPaymer ransomware group started leaking files allegedly stolen from the company.
While Foxconn said at the time that the attack had impacted US systems, the hackers claimed to have breached a facility in Mexico. The cybercriminals demanded more than $34 million in bitcoin.
The other day, GitHub provided additional information about the cyber security incident that suffered in April, the threat actors were able to steal nearly 100K NPM users’ credentials.
