Italy’s tax agency hit by LockBit ransomware group
Italy’s postal police is investigating whether threat actors obtained personal information from the country’s tax agency Sogei SpA, according to media.
Sogei SpA, the state company managing the tax agency’s IT infrastructure, reported in a statement on July 25 that after initial checks no signs of cyberattacks or of data breach were found.
Approximately 78 gigabytes of data may were stolen in the massive cyberattack, which was carried out by LockBit - the group of pro-Russia hackers.
The LockBit ransomware operation published news of the hack on the Dark Web and required for a redemption in five days, threatening to make the data public if the request won’t be fulfilled.
In May, however, LockBit reportedly targeted the websites of several Italian public entities.
The other day, the Bridgestone Americas family of enterprises which includes more than 50 production facilities and 55,000 employees throughout the Americas, also has been hit by the LockBit ransomware group.
