Favorite Color
The starry sky above him almost seems to shower him with good luck.
A shooting star crosses the sky.
Standing against the recently painted purple car, Tommy takes a deep breath as he waits. She's not late, he just arrived a bit earlier than he should’ve. He shoves his hands inside his pockets to stop himself from fidgeting. He’s not nervous really, just a bit restless.
The gate to Little Seoul opens suddenly, and he hears a roaring engine making its way out. The familiar car stops right at the entrance. He can’t see through the tinted windows, but he can feel the burning stare on him. The person kills the engine and opens the door. Bright white hair is the first thing Tommy sees.
They wave at each other, but neither of them attempts to close the distance between them. The unspoken words are floating in the air, yelling what they both already know.
One of them is unhappy about it.
Tommy hears the gate one more time. He looks up and the person he’s been waiting for finally appears. She’s smiling at him.
Her head turns once she’s close enough and notices the other car parked there.
“Everything is perfect.” The British accent flourishes as Randy replies. “I was just on my way out.”
“Okay.” She smiles and waves at him before shifting her focus back to Tommy. Ray walks over, a giggle escaping her lips as she gets closer. “Hey, Tommy T.”
A smirk curves her lips. Ray stands in front of him, a mischievous sparkle in her eyes. “You changed the color of your car.”
“Yeah… purple. What do you think?” Tommy glances back at his car. He’s suddenly unsure about the color he picked. Even when they discussed this previously.
Ray hums, inspecting the car, trying her best to keep a straight face. “I think… Purple is now my favorite color.”
Tommy chuckles. “Hmm… I see.” They hold each other’s stares for a moment. No words are needed.
“Are you ready, then?” Tommy opens the door to the passenger seat.
“I am, thank you,” Ray says, carefully sliding in.
As he closes the door, Tommy looks up. For a moment, he forgot Randy was there.
He had been there watching the entire time.
A million emotions flash across Randy’s face. Remorse is the biggest one.
Randy gets back in the car. There’s nothing else to do there.
Tommy smiles as he watches the car drive away. He glances up at the sky one more time with a sigh.
