How I created 3D video for X GAMES

Part 2

Hello again!

I continue to work on the 3D fan video for X GAMES and share with you what I get.

In the last article, I showed the first draft of the video.  Yes, it didn’t look very attractive, but that’s why it’s called a draft.

But now I will show you something more interesting.  Let's not delay and get down to business.

Why the heck need a rough draft video?

A draft of the video is needed in order to see how the animation of the camera and the main objects in the frame will look. Therefore, in order not to waste a lot of time filling out the scenes, I use ordinary cubes, cylinders and spheres.

But you already saw this in the last article.

Now I am gradually filling the scene with various elements.

Instead of cubes and spheres, I add helmets, wheels, gloves, palm trees, etc.

Plus now you can add color in the video.  I want to use the colors that are commonly used in X GAMES summer competitions.  These are mainly red, green, blue and white.

Now all objects are simply painted, roughly speaking.  But detailing is not that important yet.  The main thing is to look in general at how the selected color scheme will look.

Next, I will deal with detailing. In all scenes, the materials of objects  are completely different: metal, glass, rubber, plastic, wood. Some objects have scuffs, roughness, dents.  And all this will need to be worked out in detail.  But this is later.

If you knew how many times I have reworked all these scenes from scratch. I either don't like the subject in the frame, or I don't like the surroundings.  So you sit until 6 in the morning, bringing to the ideal one second of the whole video. But this is the thrill when you try to do everything smoothly and create a sense of continuous movement of the camera. In general, now the animation looks much smoother, you can see much more interesting details in the scenes.

With color, everything looks nicer, but it's still a little flat. There are not enough shadows, light, materials, I will add them a little later.  The main thing is that the animation is fine.

And by tradition:

I hope this article was interesting for you.  In the meantime, I will continue to work on the video and next time I will prepare an even more interesting result for you!
