What are Building Services!

The birth of building started when humans started their habitation in caves and then building their own using rocks, wood and other materials. With the evolution of building construction, soon it become obvious that the building requires services to enhance the occupant comfort.  Services such as provision of fireplace to provide heating in winter and building stacks to provide cooling in hot summer climatic conditions were part of ancient building services provisions that are still in use.

Building services are engineered systems that makes the building to perform and provide required comfort for its occupant. In other words, buildings must provide healthy, comfortable and safe environment for all the occupants, by providing engineered building services systems.

Building services are grouped in to three major categories as Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP), each of these categories comprises various systems and equipment's. Few of the major systems are as shown below,

As technology evolves, more and more sophisticated services / systems are added in to the buildings for the betterment of the occupant comfort as well as for the betterment to the environment as well as operating cost.
