Academic Writing for IELTS

Class 1

Part 1. Warm-up: What is your writing score (real of predicted)? Why do you think it is that?

Part 2. It all starts with idea - here the teacher talks for 5 minutes =)

Brainstorm for 5-10 minutes!

Your ideas matter! But very fast!

A small task: write in our chat in Telegram: one quality that you like or hate about yourself. Write why and give an example.

Part 3. Analysis: example 1

Social media is like super bad, seriously. First off, it's like a total invasion of privacy, and your info can get stolen, which is so not cool. And then there's the addiction thing, which is like, really bad for your brain and stuff. People on there are always bragging and making you feel terrible about yourself. It's, like, a constant stream of fake news and lies, so you can't trust anything. So yeah, social media is like the worst, and you should probably just stay away from it altogether.

Part 4. Analysis: example 2

Social media, despite its widespread popularity, is not without its drawbacks. One significant disadvantage is the potential for privacy invasion. As users share personal information and engage in online activities, their data becomes susceptible to misuse. Social media platforms often collect and store vast amounts of user data, leading to concerns about unauthorized access or data breaches. Additionally, the addictive nature of social media poses another challenge. Excessive use can negatively impact mental health, contributing to issues such as anxiety and depression. The constant exposure to curated and idealized versions of others' lives can create unrealistic expectations, leading to feelings of inadequacy. Moreover, the spread of misinformation on social media platforms is a growing concern, influencing public opinions and contributing to the polarization of societies.
