There are three main roles that personal assistants perform. The first is a company secretary. The second role is that of an administrative assistant. Their job is a bit different, in that they don't do as much actual work, but they do carry out essential tasks, like organising. They collect customer information, organise meetings, perform research and record, take action on behalf of your company, communicate with suppliers, prepare financial reports, perform secretarial duties, manage payroll and accounts, set up appointments, communicate with staff, manage client complaints, draft contracts and work with management to enhance your company's performance.
You may begin as an entry-level assistant. This is particularly common if you started off in a lower paid position, as assistants often work their way upwards in the business. These are the personal assistants who perform basic administrative duties, assisting managers and senior roles in carrying out their daily functions. Now, you might start learning the administrative skills that will allow you to progress through the career progression.
The third role is that of a senior assistant. As the name suggests, these are the people who are in charge of managing jobs, assigning tasks, implementing solutions, reporting, making conclusions, interviewing clients and colleagues, and working with management to enhance productivity. You should note that it is usually required that you have a formal experience of at least three years working in a similar function for another organisation or business before being able to apply for a senior role in a corporation.
