GOI (MoA&FW) uses a Nine-Fold Classification

• Forest - legal or administrative classification - state and private
• Non-Agricultural Use - built up area
• Barren and Uncultured - cultivation is unfeasible - mts and deserts
• Permanent Pastures and other grazing land
• Tree Crops
• Culturable waste land - last 5 years uncultivated
• Fallow other than current fallow - b/w
• Current Fallow - last 1 year uncultivated
• Net Area Sown - sum of physical area under cultivation
