All you need to know about the Ozone layer hole

While the entire world is struggling with the pandemic and massive changes, it paved the path for the unimaginable. The next big question now is whether there is really a hole in the ozone layer?

The earth began to heal itself with a lot of developments seen in the flora and fauna. While we had seen some wild animals on the roads reclaiming their territory, we also saw a few cheerful fake claims about the dolphins and the swans.

The partially true news that had been doing the rounds. It had the truth about waters becoming clear with lesser pollution and wastage in them. The pollution levels especially in densely populated countries like India was also dropping to the greatest low off late.

What is the Ozone Layer?

The ozone layer protects the entire living on the earth. Positioned in the stratosphere, it absorbs a major portion of the ultraviolet rays from reaching the earth's surface.

Being exposed to the ultraviolet rays is a substantial threat that causes most types of skin diseases. The risk of skin cancer and cataracts increases due to being exposed to these rays.

The main culprit that causes the depletion of the ozone layer in the emission of Chlorofluorocarbon. Additionally, the emission of greenhouse gases from the factories, vehicles, and burning of plastic also contributes to this depletion. Due to the irresponsible emission of these gases in the air, the ozone has been suffering a lot in the past few decades.

The effect of a hole in Ozone Layer

These holes created in the ozone layer invite the unnecessary presence of the ultraviolet rays. These rays can in due course make the entire earth go barren leaving no life behind.

The first hole ever discovered in the ozone layer was over Antarctica, as per the reports. The size of it was as large as 29 million square kilometers. This is larger than both Canada and Russia combined.

Amidst these pieces of information diffusing through social media, there were reports of the ozone layer above the Antarctic fixing itself. But it came as a big blow that on the other hand, as per the reports of Copernicus Sentinel-5P satellite, the ozone layer above the Arctic has a massive hole because of various reasons.

After all, it is not possible that the earth will heal overnight just because the human intervention has reduced. The effects of the previous actions will still lead to consequences.

The ozone layer is known to protect the living organisms on the earth. If this layer keeps depleting, it threatens all life on this planet. It increases the chances of skin cancers and cataracts because of the harmful rays of the sun reaching the atmosphere of the earth.

Where is this newly discovered hole in the Ozone Layer?

Scientists from the German Aerospace Center have reported powerful damage to the ozone levels near the north polar region. Additionally, as per the reports of the European Space Agency, the data captured from the Copernicus Sentinel-5P states that a strong reduction of concentrations of the ozone is seen over the Arctic.

The unusual freezing temperatures in the stratosphere and changing atmospheric conditions have led to this change in the ozone levels. This has caused a mini hole in the ozone layer.

Such a hole has been seen in the past over the North Pole. But this depletion is supposedly larger than before and can cause even more serious damage.
