Latest Aleo news!

The last month has been very busy at Aleo as we have seen a lot of announcements that should accelerate the development of the project in the future. In this article, I will briefly tell you exactly what changes have taken place in the project lately and what we can do for the project and help it develop!

Ambassador Program

As we already know, Aleo had already 2 recruiting seasons for Ambassadors and there was a huge buzz and a lot of people who wanted to send their candidacy, that 1500 applications were sent in just a few minutes. And on September 20, the form for the 3rd season of the selection was again published, and everyone who did something useful and cool for the project could submit their candidacy. This time, only 610 applications out of 1,500 have moved on to the next cycle. The rest were either duplicates or didn’t upload the Aleo resume. Therefore, before submitting the form, make sure that you have done everything correctly and adhere to all the rules!

Developer Department

The Testnet3 launch was launched on August 1st and is taking place in three phases. Each stage will last about a month. New features will be added gradually. Upon completion of the third and final phase, the team will have done sufficient testing of the network and will be able to launch the Aleo Mainnet. In addition to supporting custom programs and transactions, one of the notable changes to the protocol is the transition to a Proof-of-Stake architecture known as AleoBFT. The reason for this change is twofold.

- Firstly, the PoS architecture ensures block finality, which means that once a block is created, it will not be returned. This will provide a better experience for app users (you won’t have to wait for multiple blocks to consider transactions final) and will also make it much easier to interact with other blockchains. It will also solve some of the shallow fork issues we saw in Testnet2.
- The second justification for this is to ensure decentralization in the network. As we saw in Testnet2, block production was highly centralized around a few players. While ZPrize will help level the playing field, the fact remains that several organizations would be dominant players in Aleo mining.

Despite this, the team wants to maintain the incentive for custom hardware developers over time. Therefore, Aleo retains the PoSW mechanism but separates it from the consensus. A portion of the coinbase reward from each block, usually reserved for block producers, can be earned by providers. So while PoSW will not be part of the consensus, it remains part of the reward process. Details and the exact distribution of rewards between validators and verifiers have not yet been determined.

Testnet 3 will be encouraged. The team has allocated 25 million Aleos, which is about three times the amount of Testnet 2. The incentive program for this testnet will cover the following activities:

  1. Deploying and running programs and conducting transactions on the network
  2. Coinbase proof generation (read how we moved from pure PoW to a hybrid stake-work model)
  3. Participation in the consensus as a validator
  4. Error detection at the protocol level

Aleo’s dream was to become a platform for private decentralized applications. With this latest testnet, the team got closer to that goal.
